Microsoft alternative

I started on a Commodore 64 and moved to MSDOS PC. Went through Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000 and XP. I will now have to move to Vista soon. They say no but I had to give up 98 because it was no longer supported. How long before XP is no longer supported?

I still pull out my Commodore 64 every once in awhile and play. Very slow load ups but it is fun to remember it all.

Way back when Linux was just a startup. I tried using Linux. Could never get up and running.
Every several years I have tried Linux. Last year I got Red Hat Linux. It loaded. I then went through and downloaded Debian all 14 cds and then at testing I had to download 5 cds again. But I got it. Installed it and loved it! I started downloading "Live CD's" and trying out different flavors of Linux. I like Mepis, PCLinuxOS, Debian. I am not too crazy about Fedora. It seems to go down since 4. There was such a hype on Fedora 5. I did not care for it. Then 6, 7 and now 8. In what, a year?
